Unlike many soft-bodied pests, these insects secrete a waxy, armor-like covering that protects them while they feed on the plant’s sap. The Damage: They drain the plant of vital nutrients, which leads to yellowing needles, thinning foliage, and—if left untreated—branch dieback. I have applied a targeted insecticide treatment specifically designed to penetrate or bypass that protective shell. These images show before and after treatments done to protect the Japanese yews of damage.
